activity enjoyed by many. And no again; I did not misspell it.
Phishing is the name given to the latest online scam where
millions of unwary Americans are getting their identities
stolen.

This fraudulent activity is considered the fastest growing crime
of modern times. The favorite target groups of phishers seem to
be very young children and senior citizens, as they do not often
ask for credit reports, fill out credit card applications or
solicit loans. This allows the thieves to go undetected for
longer periods of time; but still, be careful. We all are
potential targets.

Remember when throwing away unshredded documents with personal
information in the trash bin was considered a big risk for
identity theft? While this still happens, identity thieves have
become more sophisticated in recent times, and this is how they
do it…

Phishers create bogus e-mails that look as if they came from
large, well-known institutions and banks, such as eBay, Paypal,
Citibank, EarthLink, and Wells Fargo among others. These e-mails
claim that you are due for an account update, or that the
account number, password, social security number or other
confidential information needs to be verified. Then they warn
you, stating that if you do not do it within a certain period of
time, that your account will be closed, terminated, the service
discontinued, or something to that effect.

They even provide you with links to websites that look
legitimate, because they hijack the real logos of these well
known banks, and trusted institutions and companies. And that is
the scary part… these e-mails look 100% legitimate, but they are
not.

In some cases it goes even further… some of these phishers are
installing spyware on your computer to monitor your online
activities. So… should you leave the online world for good? Not
necessarily.

These are a few things you can do to protect yourself from these
scammers:

1. Do not respond to any e-mail that asks for personal
information from you, such as account number, credit card
number, user names, passwords, etc. If you suspect that the
e-mail, indeed, be legitimate, contact your bank or institution
to verify this.

2. When in doubt, visit the Anti-Phishing Working Group for an
update of the latest scams, and tips to avoid becoming a victim.

3. Websites like www.Paypal.com, www.citibank.com, and
www.ebay.com, offer security tips and tell you what information
they’d never ask for in an e-mail.

4. Get anti-virus software and keep it up-to-date.

5. If you suspect you have received a fraudulent e-mail, do not
click on any links within it, and forward it to the FTC at
uce@FTC.gov

Finally, if you suspect you’ve been a victim of this fraud, get
a copy of your credit report immediately to check for unusual
activity. If you discover that you’ve been a victim of identity
theft, close your account at once and…

- Call the Credit Bureau. - File a police report. - Call the FTC
ID theft hotline at (877)IDTHEFT. - Alert other financial
institutions where you have accounts.

According to the Anti-Phishing Working Group, phishers send
millions of e-mails a day, getting about 5% response. Even with
this low response, it is estimated that about 150,000 Americans
have fallen prey to these scams since May of 2004. Get informed.
Do not become a victim yourself.

How sweet it is! Sugaring is a process that is similar to waxing, but the ingredients are different. Sugaring gets it name from the fact that wax is replaced with a mixture of sugar and honey. The resulting goo sticks to the hairs and not to the skin. In the end, you still end up ripping out you hair by the roots, so pain levels run about the same as waxing.

Most people find that sugaring works best on hair that grows on the upper lip and the bikini line. It’s a relatively messy process, so do it in the bathroom or some other area where clean-up will not be a problem. Regardless of where you do it, the results last for two to six weeks. Actually, fine hair will start to show around two weeks after the procedure is done, and the thicker, darker hair growth becomes apparent about four weeks later or so.

Homemade formulas work fine. You can easily make your own sugaring solution right at home. You need 1 cup of white sugar, juice from 1/2 of a lemon, 1/4 cup of honey. Mix the lemon juice, sugar and honey in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for about 2-3 minutes, until the mixture just begins to bubble and turns smooth. Turn off the microwave and leave the bowl alone until the mixture has had time to cool down to a safe handling temperature. This could be 5 minutes or more. Besides the actual sugaring formula, you’ll need some wooden tongue depressors to apply the mixture, some corn starch to help prepare the skin, and some strips of white cotton cloth. An old undershirt works fine.

Ready, set go!

Make sure that the area to be treated is clean and dry. There should be no residue from soap or body lotions. Apply a dusting of cornstarch to the area to be treated. This will help remove excess oils from your skin. Using the tongue depressor, or another suitable applicator, spread a thin layer of the mixture over the area to be treated. Now cover the treated area with a strip of the cotton fabric and rub your hand a few times over the strip the opposite way that your hair grows. Use a moderate pressure. Grab the end of the fabric strip and quickly rip it off in the opposite direction of your hair growth. Wash the treated area with warm water to remove any sticky residue and apply an unscented skin cream or lotion if you want to.

That’s all there is to sugaring!

What do you think it is? Many experts insist it’s the word “you.” Why?

When most of us read anything, we’re looking for something that interests us. What do we need at that moment? What will we need tomorrow? Why should we bother to read this story?

Self-interest is what motivates us to comb our hair, brush our teeth, and seek that new job promotion. It’s what makes us change college majors, change careers, or move to a different city.

Yet many sales letters - many of which cross my desk - neglect to personalize the message by using the critical word “you.” That’s tragic, because “you” is rated one of the English language’s most powerful motivators.

A few years ago, it’s reported that a major university conducted a study to find the most persuasive words. “You” topped the list, followed by the words money, save, new, and results.

So, how can you work this wonderful word into more of your writing? Here are a few suggestions:

1. Find a way to use the word “you” in the headline. Headlines are reportedly read four times more often than the rest of the story.

2. If your letter doesn’t have a headline, can you work “you” into the first sentence?

3. Consider putting the word “you” into each paragraph.

4. Use “you” as a way to convert features into customer benefits. Example: “Our new fabric keeps your shirt looking fresh. And our new spring line offers you five vibrant solid colors.”

5. It’s said that the second best-read part of a business letter is the P.S. Therefore, you should probably consider using “you” there, too.

Final question: If “you” is the most important word in the English language, should you consider using it more?

“Bring your fellow Levites from your ancestral tribe to join you and assist you when you and your sons minister before the Tent of the Testimony. Are you serving as an armorbearer, assistant, or volunteer in a support position on your team or ministry? Determine to let your service be a gift. In the Old Testament, God gave the Levites’ help as a gift to Aaron and his sons. He literally called out the Levites solely as a support ministry to the priesthood and offered them to Aaron and his sons as a gift.2

God’s design and purpose for our Levite brothers reflect a beautiful pattern for his New Testament servants today. God set the Levites apart to help the men of God. Look with me at some simple principles set forth that will under gird and still apply to our modern support ministries:

•God appointed the Levites. He selected the Levite brothers from among the other Israelites to join Aaron and his sons in service. In a similar fashion, the writer of the first book of Corinthians tells us, “God chooses and puts His saints exactly where he wants them in the Body of Christ. 3

•The Lord dedicated the Levites to Himself. One of the meanings given for dedication as well as holy is ’set apart’. Interchanging the words we could say, “The Levites were set apart for the Lord.” Join me as I ask myself, “How set apart am I to the Lord for service in His Church?”

•God gave the Levites’ ministry as a gift. What a wonderful honor given to the Levite tribe of Israel. The physician Luke phrased it in a similar way referring to God’s gifts saying, “If your nature is evil and you know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give a good gift.” 5 The helps ministry is a gift to our ministry leaders in the Church.

•God assigned the Levites to the details of the Tent. They were given duties concerning the Tent while the priest ministered before the Lord. Perhaps the early Church apostles had this fact in mind when they assigned the first seven to handle the details of ministry while they spent more time before the Lord in prayer and the ministry of the word.

Have you been assigned the details of the ministry while your leadership ministers before the Lord? If so, know that you have been given a great honor. We need each other in God’s chain of support. We must begin to take our place and serve as a strong link in God’s chain.

More and more people are opting to buy their own tanning beds rather than frequent a tanning salon. The main reason for this is that over a period of months or years, frequenting a salon can cost you thousands of dollars. That’s money you could have spent on your own machine. And then there’s the matter of time spent traveling to and from the salon. If you tan often, why not invest in a home tanning bed?

Indoor Tanning Beds

Very recently the World Health Organization issued a statement, backed up by the National Institutes of Health, recommending that no one under the age of eighteen should use an indoor tanning bed, citing tanning bed popularity among youth, high ultraviolet radiation levels in the beds, and a general increase in skin cancer cases.

Whether minors should be prohibited from using indoor tanning beds is a question of politics, but the point on safety is well taken by the majority of the tanning bed industry, as the warnings on their websites can attest. Indoor tanning beds must be used in moderation. A good rule of thumb is this: If you think your tan looks good, take a break from your tanning schedule.

Residential Tanning Beds

Residential tanning beds run off 120V or 220V power and take the form of two basic designs. Mostly likely the design you buy will be a horizontal tanning bed. Also known as capsules or clamshells, these beds consist of a lid lined with tubular ultraviolet lamps, and a glass or plastic “bench” contoured to fit the body. Set the timer, lie down on the bench, close the lid, rest your head on a pillow and allow the UV light to penetrate your skin. Relax. Turn your body over one time halfway through your session for even tanning.

Almost as common for home use is the vertical tanning bed, also known as a tanning booth or stand-up. The interior walls are lined with UV lamps to tan you on all sides simultaneously. Just step inside and close the door. A tanning booth tans with twice the speed of a clamshell tanning bed.

Portable tanning beds are also popular in the residential sector. A portable tanning bed consists of a “canopy” of UV lamps on a wheeled support structure. Position the hydraulically mounted canopy over your favorite deck chair or beach towel and you’re golden. The best part: tanning canopies cost half as much as clamshell tanning beds. The down side: canopies don’t deliver as high a quality tan as stand-ups or clamshells.

Your dog seems to be driving you up the wall lately, exhibiting serious behavior problems — and no amount of verbal correction seems to work. She chews the furniture, gnaws on shoes, turns over the trash cans, howls and barks when you’re not around, or even seems really depressed when you come home.

There could be many reasons for behavior problems such as these, but chances are that your dog just misses you too much, and is showing she’s bored and lonely. This is especially true if you only have one dog in the house and she’s home alone while you work.

One solution to the problem is to try to keep your dog entertained while you are gone. Get a bone or a Kong chew toy, so she’ll have a challenge for when you’re not around. Another tactic is to turn on the radio so she’ll hear human voices. Puppies respond especially well to this; it seems to reassure them much like an actual human presence. Also, if you can lend her a worn shirt, try leaving this in your dog’s bed so that your smell remains even when you aren’t there.

Discourage Destructive Behavior

In cases of destructive behavior problems, it pays to correct your dog immediately when you catch her chewing your furniture or taking out her frustrations on your belongings. Be vigilant at first — instant feedback is much easier for your dog to understand than corrections a minute or two later. When you catch her, rush to your dog’s side, grab her by the back of her neck and give her a firm “No!”

This should let her know she’s done wrong, but if you catch your dog doing it again, some owners may want to roll up 10 to 20 sheets of newspaper and give her a mild whack on the thigh. This won’t hurt her, but the sound will seem threatening and loud.

I used to come home to the remains of a stack of mail, ripped to shreds by my dog. I knew that she’d probably done it hours ago, so to reinforce the memory of the negative behavior, I grabbed some of the mail, put it near her mouth and uttered a firm “No!” She shredded the mail a few more times, but each time I reinforced with “No!” and she soon got the message, to our mutual happiness.

Help Your Pup Feel “Up”

Are you playing with and talking to your dog when you come home? Doing so can make a great difference to her feelings. Just like us, dogs want to be acknowledged and fussed over when we’re around. Dogs being such social animals, it doesn’t work if we merely feed and walk them and ignore them the rest of the time. If we can’t spend some quality time with our pets, we might as well not have them at all.

If you can afford it and your dog is alone, give serious thought to getting another. This worked well for me — after my second dog came into the picture, my first turned into an angel, and has stayed that way ever since — which is to say, I have a happier dog!

If a second dog just isn’t an option for you, you could also spend a little more time bonding with your dog by enrolling both of you in an obedience class. This way, you’ll learn more control and teamwork involving your four-footed friend. You may even find your dog more relaxed and better behaved, as the training puts you in a dominant light and takes the pressure off her to lead the household “pack.” Plus, your dog gets a chance to meet other dogs. You’ll soon notice how eager she is for the next class!

Diabetes has afflicted my life physically, emotionally and spiritually for the last sixteen years of my life.
