Saying Yes To Life!

How often do you find yourself saying, “No, I don’t want this in my life!” “This isn’t okay!” “I want this to be different!” when an experience shows up that has you less than thrilled? If you’re like most people, I’m going to guess, almost always.

This is such a normal reaction, because the fact is, we like feeling good rather than
bad. And with that said, there’s another reaction that I’d like you to take into
consideration. One, that might have you shouting from the rooftops. It goes
something like this:

“Yes! This is my life!”
“Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Okay, I hear those thoughts running through your head right now. You’re thinking:

“This woman is nuts.”
“Why in the world would I scream from the rooftops shouting thank you over and
over again when I’ve just lost my job and I’ve got a family to support and a
mortgage to pay!”

Or

“Who in their right mind would get excited and be thankful when someone close to
them has died?”

Well, when you put it that way, you’re right, I am nuts! But what I really want for you
at this moment is to allow yourself to travel a little further down the road. You
know, after some time has gone by and you’ve gotten over the initial shock of that
‘less than thrilling experience’.

I would imagine all of you have been through shocking, personal experiences in
your life. And, when given enough distance from the initial shock of the news, you
were able to gain a new perspective, see the bigger picture and learn something
from it. You grew in a way that you might not have if you didn’t have that
experience. Providing of course, that you allowed the growth to take place.

When you allow yourself to accept the fact that life is not always going to bring you
the ability to grow spiritually and emotionally by only handing you lemonade, it
gives you the opportunity to dig a little deeper and ask yourself some really
important questions.

Some of those questions might be:

1. What do I need to know about myself to understand this better?

2. What can I do differently that I might have missed so this doesn’t happen again?

3. Who have I not forgiven in my life that it’s time I did, so I have no regrets when
he or she passes on?

4. Now that I have this opening available to me, what does my heart and soul want
to fill it with?

5. What’s the best use of my time so I grow leaps and bounds from this experience?

The questions are endless and they will vary for all of you depending on what life
has handed you in the moment. I invite you to love all of your life, because the fact
is…it’s the only one you have. And the sooner you can appreciate and honor every
aspect of it, the quicker you will be able to move from your, “No, no, no!” To your
rooftop, shouting, YES, YES, YES!!

The Little-Known Speechwriting Secrets That Won George W Bush The US Election

He’s been accused of “mangling the language, destroying its meaning by avoiding the use of verbs, twisting nouns into verbs, and endlessly repeating phrases until they become zombified” (Source:’Bush and Blair accused of mangling English’ by Kate Kelland, Reuters.com.uk, Mon 15 November, 2004 12:50).

But despite this George W Bush has become the first Republican president to win re-election since Ronald Reagan in 1984.

And he’s been able to motivate the US public to vote in record numbers.

In a time of stress and crisis, Bush was able to connect with the masses.

Bush - who according to language experts once famously used the word “misunderestimate”, romped home with a record majority receiving 3.5 million more votes than Kerry.

Why did Bush win by so much when analysts were predicting one of the closest elections in years?

Well, the shocking truth is that Bush and his advisers are masters of modern-day speechwriting.

What would you do if you had this skill to move and motivate others?

Well, here are the little-known speechwriting secrets of how George W Bush won the US election?

Because they are universal principles, you can apply these to your own career and personal situation:

1. Strong Self-Belief

Bush has always had a strong sense of purpose to “build a safer world” and to make a difference. He is unswerving in his belief and mission to achieve this.

One of the most memorable lines in his acceptance speech summarises his own home-grown optimism and sense of destiny.

“There is an old saying, “Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers; pray for powers equal to your tasks.”

What is your passion and purpose in life?

2. Certainty in an Age of Uncertainty

In times of fear and uncertainty, sitting politicians have a greater chance of being re-elected.

Bush reinforced this message in all his speeches.

For example: “To make this nation stronger and better, I will need your support and I will work to earn it. I will do all I can do to deserve your trust.”

Trust was Bush’s central campaign message to overcome people’s anxiety about the future.

What is your central theme for your next speech?

3. Visual Imagery

Visual imagery is just as important as words in a speech, especially for people who take in information through visual rather than auditory channels.

Here are some clever ways Bush and his team maximised positive visual images in an election that was staged for television.

Pictures of his family, including that wonderful election night shot of George W relaxing in the White House with three generations of the Bush family, including his daughter, father and mother. (PS - only mothers with sons could appreciate that proud look on Barbara Bush’s face as she looked over to George W)

He also used his tangible evidence of power such as alighting from the Presidential helicopter and plane to reinforce the trust and security message.

The American flag he wore on his lapel helped reinforce patriotism, as did his red tie when out on the election stump.

Interestingly, Bush wore a blue tie for his acceptance speech. This was subtle and sent the message “I’m in a different phase now, I’ve won the battle and its time to move on”.

What non-verbal signal does your appearance send to your audience?

4. The Bush Personal Brand

The Bush personal brand is very interesting. Of course it is built on stories and everyone knows the story of the hard drinking, hard working Texan wildcat oil investor who at 40 years of age gave up drinking, found God and committed himself to public office.

In his acceptance speech, Bush reinforced this personal story and his special relationship with the people of Texas where his political career started.

“On the open plains of Texas, I first learned the character of our country: sturdy and honest, and as hopeful as the break of day.

I will always be grateful to the good people of my state. And whatever the road that lies ahead, that road will take me home.”

Notice the visual imagery he uses to paint a picture of Texas and the warm feelings of home in middle-America.

How can you use this technique for your next speech?

5. Relentless Discipline

Bush ran a tight, disciplined campaign and his speeches never wavered or wandered from their key message.

Even in the glory of his win, he was focused:

“Our military has brought justice to the enemy and honor to America.

Our nation has defended itself and served the freedom of all mankind.”

6. Family Values

Bush campaigned on family values - a common theme in both the US and Australian elections.

In his acceptance speech this is how he articulated these values:

“There are many people to thank and my family comes first.

Laura is the love of my life.

I’m glad you love her too.

I want to thank our daughters who joined their dad for his last campaign.

I appreciate the hard work of my sister and brothers.

I especially want to thank my parents for their loving support.”

7. Shared Set of Values

Bush was attuned to the values of the heartland of America, “that heartland is spiritually and geographically the Mid West, a place of small town, conservative family values,” according to Tom Carver, the BBC’s correspondent in Washington.

Carver adds “Bill Clinton was a fair reflection of the laissez-faire mood of the confident, prosperous 90s. And President Bush is a mirror to the darker, more nervous post-9/11 America.”

For Bill Clinton’s 14 Speechwriting Secrets read my new book ‘Understanding Influence for Leaders at All Levels’ to be released by McGraw-Hill in February 2005.

8. Staying on Message

In the US, news is about emotion and is more orientated towards entertainment than just the facts.

Bush knew this and while he may not have the charisma of Clinton and his aversion to media conferences is well-known, his media performance during the election was one of his best.

Again, Carver from the BBC provides a great example of the legendary Bush media-savvy skills:

“There was a telling moment in his press conference … when he was asked about the “big business” image that he and his party have. He completely ignored the question and talked instead about small businesses and how they are the engine of growth in the economy. He doesn’t even allow the phrase “big business” to pass his lips.”

9. Ability to Read, Reflect and Relate to Issues of Concern

Analysts predicted the US election would be a referendum on the war against Iraq.

How wrong they were. The big issues for voters were about patriotism, and in particular, who do the American people trust on:

i) Moral grounds, ii) The economy, iii) Terrorism, and lastly iv) The War on Iraq.

Bush won the moral argument in a landslide and again played this card in his acceptance speech:

“America has spoken, and I’m humbled by the trust and the confidence of my fellow citizens.

With that trust comes a duty to serve all Americans. And I will do my best to fulfill that duty every day as your president.”

How can you relate to the issues and concerns of your audience?

10. A Great Call to Action

I believe the purpose of every speech should be to make a difference and move people to action.

For Bush it was for people to trust him and win their vote.

The “who do you trust theme” worked well for Bush and won him the election.

In his closer to his acceptance speech, Bush articulates this trust issue well with a clear and strong call to action:

“The campaign has ended, and the United States of America goes forward with confidence and faith.

I see a great day coming for our country and I am eager for the work ahead.”

What is the ‘call to action’ for your next speech?

Earning Income with your Blog Site

Affiliate Yourself and Start Earning Income with your Blog Site

The following article presents the very latest information on
blogging. If you have a particular interest in blogging, then
this informative article is required reading.

Not only are there a lot of people out there blogging for fun,
many of them are finding ways to make money by blogging. There
are a number of ways an income from blogging can be achieved,
but one of the most popular is by affiliating your blog. If you
are blogging or considering starting a blog and you are not yet
affiliated, you will quickly find that you should. Otherwise,
you are just leaving money on the table that you may not have
to.

The first thing you may be asking yourself is this: what is an
affiliate program? Well, that is a great question and one easily
answered. An affiliate program is one where the seller offers a
part of the money generated by a sale to those who refer
customers to them. There are, in fact, a lot of websites out
there who are parts of affiliate programs.

With these companies, you need to sign up. You will, in most
cases, be given a unique ID from that affiliate. That ID is for
identifying you as the one who has referred the customer to the
site and made the sale. If, then, you are successful in helping
to sell the product, you receive payment that is generally
stated in whatever your affiliate agreement includes. The amount
you might get paid ranges greatly. You may make as little as one
cent in US dollars or as much as one hundred US dollars
depending on the product, the company, and sometimes the amount
you help to sell.

Hopefully the information presented so far has been applicable.
You might also want to consider the following:

Once you have made the decision to use an affiliate program and
have figured out which one you want to use, then you are ready
to get started. Sign up and register for the affiliate program
and start adding your affiliate’s codes to your blog. Ah, but
there is the next issue: how do you include affiliate links?
There are a few ways you can do that. First of all, you can do
reviews about a product and then link to that product through
your affiliate program (obviously you would need it to be a
product offered by your affiliate program). A second way, if you
don’t want to do a review, is to compile a recommended list that
is either in a blog entry or along the side of your blog. A
third way to get your affiliate program involved in your blog is
to use codes or scripts in your coding that will generate random
links to products in your affiliate program.

Once you have your links and your program in place, it will be
all about product. It is important to note that most people are
not going to keep reading a website if they think it is just all
about selling. Make sure your content, which you update
regularly, is useful to the reader. You want that reader to keep
coming back and hopefully working through your affiliates, so
you really should concentrate on good, solid, useful content
that is going to keep your readers coming back and not make them
feel like they are being sold all the time. If, however, you
really want to sell, you should try to label your site as a
commercial endeavor. Keep those things in mind and your
affiliate program will hopefully help you turn a profit.

No matter what your blogging experience may be, it is possible
that you can blog for fun and profit at the same time. There are
a number of ways to make a profit off of your blog, but the most
common right now is to affiliate yourself with certain other
sites and products. Affiliate programs generally cost little or
no money and can help you make money on your own. They are
basically a way of getting commission from helping someone to
sell a product or service. So find the ones that work with the
theme of your blog and get those codes up on your site. Once
they are up, make sure you are finding ways to drive traffic to
them without going overboard on the selling and making sure your
content is useful. Stick with these tips and stays focused and
before you know it, your blog can become a success through the
use of a good affiliate program.

If you’ve picked some pointers about blogging that you can put
into action, then by all means, do so. You won’t really be able
to gain any benefits from your new knowledge if you don’t use it.

Special Baby Clothes For Those Special Days

Baby clothes are a necessity more than anything else, but there are a couple of special occasions that make the baby the center of attention. It is moments like this that the mother’s keen sense of fashion gets to shine. Here, the fact that the baby will undoubtedly grow out of the outfit quickly is of little to no concern, and style is of the utmost importance. In most cases, so is tradition.

Perhaps the most obvious of these occasions is baby’s homecoming. Almost any mother can tell you what they brought their baby home in. Depending on the time of year, this special outfit can range from a fruit print romper to a pair of footsie pajamas. In this case, it is the sentiment attached to the moment that makes the outfit so special. It is a good idea to save this outfit in a memory box for when your child has children of their own, or make it into a treasured stuffed animal. Any way that you think is fitting to preserve the memory works, but doing something to set this outfit aside is important.

The next big day is the baby’s introduction to family. What is your baby going to be wearing the first time they meet their grandparents, aunts, uncles, and close friends? If this is a small secular gathering, then something informal is an easy out. However, you may want to dress the new family member up for the multitude of pictures that will inevitably be taken. Of course, there is also the weather to take into account. If the baby is going to be in a hot crowded home, then keeping them cool is they key factor in choosing appropriate attire. A thin cotton dress for a girl, or a onesie works great. Think of the day as an excuse to let others change the diapers for a little while.

There is of course the more common baby coming out, either christenings or a bris. The traditional christening attire is, of course a white garment. This can take many forms, from a gown to a suit, and a whole host of materials. The important thing to remember is that the baby is going to be passed around a lot on a day like today, so make sure that he or she is comfortable no matter how angelic they look.

For a bris, the attire is clearly gender specific. Therefore, baby tuxedos and suits are a hot item. You would be surprised at the inexpensive prices at which you can find a tiny tux. For less than thirty dollars, your baby can be in his very own penguin suit. There are also more traditional items, which are very much like that of the Christian baptism ceremony. That is, long white gowns with blue trim. These are also modestly priced, and generally work for either ceremony (which could potentially be a big money saver for an interfaith marriage).

The special occasion that all mothers look forward to at the end of a stressful but joyous year is the baby’s first birthday. This outfit is much like the baby’s coming home outfit (except significantly larger), and can be a whole host of different styles or degrees of formality. The most important thing about this outfit is, of course, its resistance to cake stains.

Don’t Ask Your Broker

Unfortunately, most of you who are reading my column are suffering some substantial losses in the stock market. Whether it is mutual funds or individual stocks everything with mighty few exceptions is going down. Maybe you are just giving back some nice profits, but maybe it is beginning to bite into your original principal.

You are wondering what should I do? I know, I’ll call my broker. He knows all about the market. Please! Don’t ask your broker. I already know what he will tell you. The usual Wall Street smoke and mirrors answer. “Don’t worry. This is just a healthy correction in a bull market. It will come back”. It makes me sick to hear this kind of nonsense from a supposedly informed and intelligent (?) person. By the way, what is “healthy” about a 38% “correction”?

If this guy was so smart when he had you buy these stocks and mutual funds then why wasn’t he smart enough to have you sell before you gave back 50% or more of your portfolio? He is working under the guise of investment conventional wisdom that is conventional but not wisdom. “Mr. Mushroom, you are in for the long term so don’t worry about these aberrations.” YUK! That is what you are - a mushroom. Grown in the dark and fed you-know-what.

There are times when you should have on only one position - CASH. Cash is a position, but brokers are not taught that. They never heard of it.

When I was a floor trader guys would come to me and say, “Al, what do you have on?” and my reply, “Nothing” drew a shocked look. “How can you be down here on the floor and not be trading?” It is very simple, I was there to make money, not to trade. Many times you should not be doing anything. It is the same for the average investor. He should be in cash when there is a bear market as there is right now. How long it will last I don’t know, but I will know when it is over and the bull has returned. Your broker won’t know because he has not been trained to make money, only to make commission.

Every stock and mutual fund you own should be examined regularly (preferably weekly) and a stop placed under each position so (just in case) that hummer decides to tank you will be out with your profit. Never let a winning trade go to a loss. You must protect your capital at all times.

Safe Cyber Dating

Cyber dating is one of the most popular dating venues these
days. No longer is it necessary to go to the bar down the street
to find a date. No longer is it necessary to romance someone
through flowers and candy on a date. Dating has become a cyber
event. Not only can you meet people through cyber dating but you
can actually court them through cyber dating as well. But, what
you need to remember is that cyber dating needs to be kept safe.

Safe cyber dating doesn’t mean no cyber dating. Instead, you
should take precautions like any other dating situation. Things
that are personal to you, like finances and business
relationships should be kept out of the cyber dating world.
Instead, learn about each other lives. Safe cyber dating is
important because of many reasons, but the most important reason
is for your own protection. Because cyber dating is so easy to
get into, there are many people who use cyber dating as a means
to lure people into their scams or bad situations. Cyber dating
is a smoke screen, unfortunately, to many people. And, even if
the person you are dating in cyber space is on the up and up,
that does not mean that your date hasn’t lied even just a little
about him or herself either. Cyber dating is also a good way to
hide. In order to learn more about how to be safe, check out
http://www.getdatingtips.com.

So how can you be safe in cyber dating? Don’t trust individuals
with your personal information. Don’t provide cyber dating
partners with information regarding your home address or
financial information. Meet your cyber dating partner in an open
area where other people are close by for safeties sake. Take
your time getting to know your cyber dating friend. Cyber
dating, even after all of this is said and done, is still a
great way to meet people.

College: A Primary Option or A Backup Plan

College is supposed to aid people at getting a good job and becoming successful. Hence, for most that go to college it is their primary option to use that knowledge to get a job. Owning a business to most that go to college is a secondary option that some only consider pursuing if they need extra money or don’t feel they are getting enough out of their degree.

It seems as though college is becoming more of a secondary option these day. A lot of people that I know are looking at college as a backup plan. They start businesses with the thought that if it does not work out, they can always go out and get a job.

That seems like a smart way to view the situation as it is rare for a person to become wealthy by working for someone. Most of the wealthy individuals in the United States have obtained their wealth from owning their own business or by dabbling in real estate.

Another issue is the fact that even with an education some people still have a difficult time getting a good job. It is always good to have a backup plan for the things you do because things don’t always go as you would like them to go.
