Writing Ebay Titles that Sell

What are titles? They are the headings above eBay auctions.
It’s my opinion you write a better title after you have written out your auction information.
After all, you have all the product information right in front of you, well organized and well written.
Writing the title is then straightforward and easy.

Writing titles is not for selling and not necessarily for marketing or advertising. Writing titles is purely for getting “found” by the eBay search engine.

Simple & Straightforward

What does a title for one of your eBay products need to do?
The title should:

• Completely identify the item
• Contain appropriate keywords for the eBay search engine
• Indicate exactly whether the item is new,2nd hand and if used, indicate the condition that the item is in.

It’s that simple. Don’t try to make it more complicated. Notice that I didn’t say the following:

• Try to attract attention
• Hook prospective buyers
• Start the sales process off

Indeed, the need to use hype is a misconception that many eBay sellers make. They are not clear about the purpose of the title therefore tend to offer information in the title that is NOT needed.
Let’s say you are selling a Canon Powershot Digital Camera, a well known brand with several models. Prospective buyers get to the list of digital cameras via the eBay search (i.e., keywords = digital and camera)
If a potential buyer is looking for a Canon Powershot, you want him to be able to immediately spot your title in the very long list of titles for Canon digital cameras.

The following title says it all:

“Canon Powershot Digital Camera New”

A prospective buyer can read the list quickly and spot this title easily.
You’ve done your job well. Once prospective buyers have found your ad, they will read your ad copy. That’s where you make your
sales pitch.
Anything that detracts from potential buyers finding your auction ad easily will result in fewer bidders and ultimately lower sales prices.

For instance, look at some of the following titles:

CANON CAMERA POWERSHOT FABULOUS DIGITAL CAMERA!!!
***Great Fast Action - digital camera, new in box ****
Fast Action camera !!! - Canon - award winning !!! - in the box!!

The first is in all caps, which is hard to read.
The second uses characters that interfere with skimming. In addition, it doesn’t say much that’s concrete. It doesn’t even include the brand.
The third is difficult to read due to the exclamation marks.
And what does “in the box” mean? It probably means new, but
it could mean used but put back in the box.

“Award winning” is OK for an auction ad but not for a title; it doesn’t help identify the product. These titles will cost you potential buyers.
There’s no reason to make an art out of writing titles. They are
Straight forward. Just identify what’s for sale using words that potential buyers will use to search.

Start Selling On eBay - Getting Started On The Right Foot

You’ve started your own eBay business and, even though it’s part time right now, you know it’s going to become a huge success. You are able to see the day when you can set your own hours, set your own dress code and call your own shots. The world is your oyster and you are raring to go. Just be careful you don’t fall into the one of the major work-at-home traps.

Congratulations! But before you go any further, it’s a good idea to insure that your new ebay business is built on a solid foundation.

One of the most often seen problems behind the failure of a home business is the lack of productivity. Many people, particularly when starting a part time eBay business, find that they just don’t get things done.

When you have no one who you are responsible to, you may find that procrastination and poor time management begin to rear their ugly heads. It’s important that you take some of the productive elements of a regular 9-5 job and incorporate them into your budding eBay business. Here are some pointers:

First: Setting a schedule can be crucial to your success. Simply saying “I’ll get some auctions listed this evening” just doesn’t cut it. It leaves too much room for something else to come up.

Set a schedule and stick to it. Maybe this is 9 to 3 when your kids are at school, or maybe late at night when the kids are in bed. Maybe you decide to get up an hour and a half earlier to work before going to your regular job. Regardless of the time you choose, make sure you honor it.

Second: Police your productivity. When working on your eBay business you’re your own boss. There isn’t anyone looking over your shoulder. This can be a great feeling, but it can also drastically reduce your productivity.

When you sit down at your work desk, make sure you’re being as productive as possible. No computer games, no web surfing, no personal phone calls. It’s not necessary your chain yourself to your desk - just be as productive as possible.

Third: Dress the part. This may seem silly to many of you, but it’s extremely important. If you’re dressed in sweats or your pajamas, your mind is much more likely to wander. It’s fine to be comfortable, but dress reasonably.

Fourth: Create an effective work space. The basics of working at home can be more disruptive than you realize. If you’re not careful your work can be interrupted every few minutes to deal with other things. If there’s a television in the room or you’re right next to the family phone, you’re not going to get a lot done.

Set aside a quiet, out of the way space in your home and make it off limits during your work hours. This may be a spare bedroom, or just the corner of your bedroom. Whichever you choose, just make sure there’s a door between you and the world.

Once you’ve established your workspace, go ahead and decorate it and keep it neat. Set up your space like a real office. Put up a couple of pictures, get a plant if you’d like, whatever you think will motivate you. Then keep your papers organized and your trash bin emptied. A nice looking, organized space will really contribute to your productivity.

Take your eBay business seriously right from the start. If you follow these tips, you’ll find yourself getting a lot more work done, and that can mean more profit and more time to spend with your family.

The Five Things You Must Do Before Buying On Ebay

As a consumer, you will find many great deals on items that you want and need through eBay auctions. Many people visit eBay on a daily basis looking for auctions for items that they may be interested in - simply because eBay auctions are so much fun!

However, before you start buying on eBay, there are some steps that you need to take. Here are five things you must do before buying on eBay.

1. You can’t buy anything without registering first.

Registration is free and only takes a few minutes. You will be asked for credit card information, and this is required before you will be able to bid on auctions. Your email address must be confirmed before your account will become active, so make sure that you use the correct email address.

You will be given the option to sign up for a Paypal account, if you don’t already have one, and you should strongly consider doing so. Signing up with Paypal is free, and many auctions will require you to have a Paypal account.

2. Once you have completed the registration process, you are ready to start bidding on auctions.

However, don’t jump in right away. Navigate around the site a bit, and get a feel for things first. Some unscrupulous sellers try to take advantage of new eBay users, and you must be wary of them.

Start by searching for the items that you are interested in. Using the category list, click on the categories that you feel that you are interested in, and start looking at the open auctions in those categories. You should find the items that you are looking for quite easily.

3. Once you have found items that you want to bid on add the auction to your favorites - but don’t place your bid just yet.

Instead, go find old auctions for similar items. See how much those items sold for so that you know how high to bid. Research the item as best as you can. Determine what the item would cost if it were brand new, and what you should bid now on the used item, in the condition that it is in.

4. Learn more about the seller.

Remember, not everyone is honest. Avoid buying from sellers who have low reputations. The reputation system at eBay is an important tool for buyers. This will enable you to determine whether or not you can trust the person that you are buying from.

Read their feedback page. Read the seller’s ‘About Me’ page. Get to know who you are dealing with a little bit better by communicating with the seller about the auction.

5. Place your bid.

Once you know what item you want and how much you should bid on it, you are ready to place your bid.

There are two ways you can do this. Some sellers take bids on their auctions, with the item going to the highest bidder. Others choose to use the ‘Buy Now’ feature, which means that they have a set reserve price that you must meet - but you are not in competition with other bidders. This is a typical option that sellers use when they have multiple identical items to sell, or when they sell brand new items on eBay using drop shippers.

If you are entering into an open live auction - where bids are placed and the highest bidder wins - you will need to watch the auction closely to ensure that you keep raising your bid to win the item. Just make sure that you don’t end up winning by paying way too much - unless it is a unique item that won’t be found elsewhere!

Aphrodites Island

Cyprus has been home to many cultures over the ages, but what it is best known for is its spectacular climate, which has made it a very popular destination for Europeans, with over 2.4 million visiting its many resorts. Cyprus basks is more than 330 clorious days of sun each year, which has given it the name The Island of the Sun. With plenty of travel agents able to arrange Cyprus holidays and low cost airlines such as Easyjet offering routes to Paphos and Larnaca, it has never been easier to get there.

Cyprus attracts tourists from all over the world, but the majority come from Europe. Affluent eastern Europeans and Russians have also joined the crowd in recent years. The British Armed Forces have long has a presence in Cyprus. The UK retains a military base in order to have a gateway for forces to the Middle East. As such the Brits are now almost as local and the locals, and this has in turned resulted in areas that are less traditional and more contemporary in culture. English is widely spoke and understood among nearly all age groups to driving on the left side of the road. A major attraction for many Brit tourists is that the island offers all of the comforts and familiarities of home, but we also get to bask in the sun.

For many reading this, the prospect of taking a holiday away from England only to be greeted at the airport by a hire car representative hailing from Croydon and being served an authentic Mediterranean dish of steak and chips will not appeal. However, this side of Cyprus, that continues to attract millions of tourists year after year, is only one aspect of the island and is concentrated around the tourist hotspots of Paphos, Larnaca and Ayia Napa. As soon as you leave the packaged paradise and clubbers haven of these areas and hit the road the real country reveals itself.

A trip well worth taking is into Cyprus largest mountain range, the Troodos Mountains. In the heart of the mountains you will find the Kykkos monastery, a UNESCO world heritage site since 1998. Housing art and exhibits on ancient Greece, the monastery has the twin function of being a museum for visitors and a practising monastery lived in by worshiping monks. If you are a wine lover, there are treats in store for you. A daytrip to the Troodos Mountains can be a welcome change from the beach and with overnight accommodation available in many of the authentic villages dotted about; you might want to spend a few days here sampling another side of Cyprus.

Investment Formulas - What Purpose Do They Serve?

What exactly does a formula do? A complete detailed explanation can be as vast and complex as each individual investor and is beyond the scope of this article but a brief summary of a formula’s usefulness would include the two primary functions it fulfills.

First, over a full market cycle, it will improve your investment profits without the application of any thought whatsoever on your part. A good thing for most investors, because the less emotion they inject into their investment decisions - the better off they are. Because there are many investors who don’t believe that the market will ever go through a full cycle again - that the direction of the market is in a permanently upward movement, except for temporary, minor dips. It might be worthwhile to point out - without seeming to be pessimistic - that there are some good arguments against an indefinite continuation of bull markets… as the past few years have shown.

The second purpose of a formula - apart from the question of profiting from complete market cycles - is to provide a means of profiting from more minor fluctuations. It is undeniable that the market will continue to fluctuate and a formula allows the investor to benefit from these fluctuations by specifying conservative investment policies when the market is relatively high, and more aggressive policies when it is relatively low.

For many, formulas appear rather complicated and so the obvious question that comes to mind is “Can the small investor profitably use them?” and the answer is resounding yes. True, some formulas are so complex that they are unsuitable for most investors but most formulas do not fall into this category. The most widely used formulas today, in fact, are based on extremely simple principles and can be used by anyone with a rough knowledge of elementary school math. Special measures to adapt formulas to the needs of small investors are necessary, at times but it is worth noting that small investors are just as likely to want to improve their profit performance in the market as are the larger investors. And what’s nice about formula’s, is that there is no particular disadvantage in having a small portfolio when using them.

Security or Uncertainty
All investors, both large and small find themselves in the same basic quandary. All would like to be sure of what is going to happen next to their capital and so they are inclined to appreciate the features of fixed-income investments such as, bonds, savings accounts or commercial paper.

In such investments, their capital is guaranteed and so is their interest. On the other hand, there are few opportunities for appreciable profits in these areas and no protection against a decline in the value of the dollar. As a result, many investors / speculators are attracted by the characteristics of common stocks or currency trading or whatever… where neither their capital nor their return is guaranteed, but which offer substantially better opportunities for higher profits through capital gains.

How to resolve the dilemma? It is obvious that the great difficulty with all investments is there inherent uncertainty. One workable suggestion for reducing the damage this uncertainty can do has been often made. Simply don’t buy common stocks or other higher risk investments at all. However, most investors tend to regard this idea as, although practical, rather extreme and are reluctant to abandon the possibilities of profit that exist in these investment vehicles.

The formula idea is simply a form of protection against uncertainty. Formulas are designed to allow the investor to profit from the advantages of owning common stocks or other higher risk investment alternatives like currency trading, while providing them with a measure of protection against their handicaps; to give them some of the stability offered by fixed income investments, while not condemning them to a low return on their money. The whole point of formulas is to make the best of both worlds.

Online Articles and Miss Spelling of the Titles

Recently a very controversial topic has come up where online article writers have submitted many articles to an online article submission site and purposefully miss spelled the words. Why; well simple really, you see, they want to; Game the Search Engines and thus pick up those search engines users who type in the wrong word or miss a key stroke?

One online article submission site wants this abuse to stop. In order to do this they want to disallow miss spellings in the titles. But some words may not be in the spell check, especially industry words like SmartCars, NanoFiber or Tornatic Storm Cell. Instead of addressing this issue they want to make rules without thinking and I can name 100 examples of words, which are used in common English, search engine searchers and everyday speech, but are either not actually recognized words.

And you can pick up any newspaper, white paper, industry trade journal and find at least 5 words per column that would show miss spellings, but are completely within the bounds of reality and not purposely miss spelled. Meanwhile there are many words which are miss spelled so often they in fact become the norms. All of the writers who want such a miss-spelling rule enacted are wrong on this and show their complete ignorance and I am ashamed to be associated with them in any way. They are linear thinking and are not understanding reality, basically they need to; Grow up. Consider this in 2006.

Best Laptop Computers Officially Mass Market

Do you recall when laptops for gaming were a niche item? In the past the lack of sales countered by the profit margins. Everybody wanted this kind of notebook computer, but at the price they were going for it was basically unaffordable. Everyone thought they were the best laptops and rightly so. I guess we all got excited about them but the majority would highly unlikely buy laptops that were so overpriced. Recently it looks likes bigger manufacturers are all getting into the sector really rapidly and things are changing.

I guess they would categorize it as a top end item and make lots of profit on these especially with their mass production facilities. With such little margins on other laptop computers it is no surprise they would like to be involved. In my point of view larger brands can use leverage to induce prospects to buy laptops despite the price. This is a giant threat to smaller boutique retailers. With the money at their disposal they could easily finish the smaller competition. Local retailers can’t actually take advantage of a brand name as the bigger manufacturers could.

The hype being generated concerning the new branded gaming notebooks is making potential purchasers perceive them to be the best laptops in history. I reckon that local resellers may yet have a chance. Being able to get exactly what parts they desire is a large advantage for numerous people who are considering purchasing a gaming laptop computer. Well versed in the technology, these types of buyers are very clued up on what specs to check for. If you are the notebook for gaming then surely the power matters the most worry.

All game players agree that its a beneficial change. It will force prices to slip and make premium technology low priced for people. I say that with a large dose of uncertainty however. New notebooks are always being released and that should hold costs relatively high. Seeing as the established brand manufacturers have already begun launching gaming laptops, I reckon we’ll have to be patient to witness what occurs.

In my view these guys http://www.rizeon.com/gaming_laptops/page.php are providing gaming laptops for cheap.

Want to start a publishing revolution?

Calling all publishers, editors, journalists and freelance
writers. It’s time to breathe more life into your copy. Turn
your articles into living pieces that spark measurable
debate, get closer to your readers and engage their mind and
soul - we’re talking revolution.

As it was in the beginning

Publishers have for many years relied on letters to get
feedback from their readers and although email has opened
up this method of communication it is still time consuming
and difficult to process with only a fraction of the
received correspondence ever being used.

Let’s face it, as well as being an overhead for the
publisher, to most people it is an unrewarding medium in
terms of effort required and response received, just think
of the number of letters that go unpublished and unread.

As it is now

The Internet has brought new channels of communication and
has opened up opportunities that allow us to challenge
traditional methods. The Internet is now a mature
technology, no longer the preserve of the new fad brigade
but a technology that has been embraced by a global
population, young and old alike and it allows us now to
re-evaluate the way things are done. Newspapers, trade
journals, magazines and ezines now have the opportunity to
change the mental process.

When people read an article they often would like to
comment, and historically this has required them to feel
strongly enough to put pen to paper; or with the creation
of the Internet send an email. Sure emails are easier but
it still takes time to craft an email and time for the
majority, is what they haven’t got. The letters page
although interesting are at best a snapshot of comments; a
well crafted and well written letter on any given subject
may hold the view of the majority, or the minority, as it
is a free text medium and difficult to measure.

As it should be

Now consider the advantages of linking articles to online
surveys where as a publisher you will have the ability to
obtain valuable feedback from your readers and in a form
that can be easily measured. Just as important as you
communicating with your readers is giving your readers a
way to communicate with you where they know it will count.

Want a snapshot of opinion? Did they like that article?
Did your readers agree with what was said or do they take
the opposite view?

Now it’s easy

In the past surveys would have taken considerable effort
to design and publish and altogether was a process too
long winded and therefore reserved for the niche and
bigger topics.

However, using sites like http://www.SurveyGalaxy.com
surveys and questionnaires can be created and published via
the internet by anyone who has a pulse. Professional
looking surveys and questionnaires created in minutes that
make the perfect compliment to articles that prompt opinion
and debate.

The advantage over letters and e-mails are that all the
feedback is managed and measured and sites like Survey
Galaxy will provide you with a real time poll that you can
either keep to yourself or share with your readers.

It’s not even one or the other now

Link each article to an online survey and not only extend
the life of the article as people have a channel to express
their views, but involve your readers in the discussion
where they now know their opinion will be counted.

You think they would rather send an email? - no problem -
include the facility within the survey and get the best
of both worlds.

It’s fast, low cost, and easy to do; it will engage and
empower the reader, provide excellent feedback and having
established a dialogue you then have the opportunity to
link to other related articles.

Try it now and register your opinion of this article here:-
