Asia is always loaded with celebrations, many of the most grand of which go on in the South East. Not surprisingly Thailand is the place of Thai Lanterns and are today reaching a far wider audience as they gain popularity at UK events. One Such Festival by the name of Yee Peng follows the Buddhist Calendar and translates to the twelfth lunar month. The West Calendar ordinarily sees this falling in November. Loy Krathong is what you will hear it referred to if you happen to be in other piece of Thailand. Many customs are followed during this festival by the Thai masses.. My precious action is the releasing of ‘Thai Lanterns’ or ‘Khom Loy’. Watching the Lanterns enlighten the nightsky is a really dramatic view to behold. Thai people trust that the exiting lantern is companied by any woes. The light is said to direct people to a bright and fulfilled living. I am not sure if westerners grasp the comparable feeling but each year see’s many linking in on this fun event. The Thai Lanterns are biodegradable and are fabricated from Rice Paper and Bamboo for structure. Flight time is about 12 minutes and the Lanterns are known to reach upward of 800 ft!Popularity has been on the rise (excuse the pun)
