Joel Roskind Plans Active Retirement as a Instructor
Dr. Joel Roskind is retired from plastic surgery, but busier than ever extending experience reaped from thirty-year career to physicians and medical students. As a surgeon, Dr. Joel Roskind specialized in body enhancements, but he also made a point of getting multiple interests in the medical domain, giving broad know how and perspective which he now plans to leverage as a teacher and advisor
Dr. Joel Roskind approaches medicine from a multidisciplinary and humanitarian perspective. Joel Roskind MD also served in the U. S. Navy as part of a three-man plastic surgery team, and during that time he traveled to Mexico to do surgery on deprived children with cleft lips and palates.
As a practicing surgeon, Dr. Joel Roskind learned firsthand changes in the healthcare sector leading to an progressive number of procedures being performed outside the traditional hospital setting. Always patient oriented, Roskind’s worries about the safety of outpatient and ambulatory surgery facilities led to a long association with the AAAASF, including over two decades of service as a facilities inspector. He is well positioned to assist operators of such facilities meet the highest quality standards required by insurers today.
In addition to operating a busy plastic surgery practice specializing in body enhancements, Joel Roskind MD also formulated a second specialty in facilities accreditation, eventually becoming an inspector for the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAASF), and is now instructing with clinics to help them achieve certification. He also took a smart interest in practice management and now consults with physicians in the areas of hiring and training team, setting up electronic systems, error prevention and patient relations.
Fulfilling the trust that patients put in their physicians has always been a top priority for Joel Roskind MD. He feels that he can continue to contribute to best practices and patient safety in a broader and more comprehensive way through his work as a lecturer and advisor. When he is not instructing or consulting, Joel Roskind MD plans to pursue a personal interest in Judaic studies.
